Robert S. Rice, MD, is a Mayo Clinic-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He is accepting new patients at his practice located on the main floor of the Layton Antelope Building A west wing.
Dr. Rice is an expert at diagnosing and treating a wide spectrum of orthopedic conditions and sports-related injuries. He is especially mastered in arthroscopic surgeries of the knee and shoulder and executes excellent fracture repairs.
In addition to treating his patients, Dr. Rice has been a member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboarding medical team since 2013.
Dr. Rice brings a wide range of skills and training to his practice at Tanner Clinic. The Northern Utah native received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah. He then earned his M.D. from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following, he completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at the highly-ranked Mayo Clinic located in Rochester, Minnesota. He was named the “Trauma Resident of the Year” in 2009 during his residency.
Dr. Rice continued his training with a one-year fellowship in sports medicine at Taos Orthopedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico. He has earned board certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Rice returned to Utah to join Tanner Clinic’s staff and to be closer to his family. Outside of work, he often spends time outdoors where he enjoys skiing, camping, hunting, golfing, riding four-wheelers, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
