Cari Hamilton-Barrett, LCMHC

Cari Hamilton-Barrett, LCMHC, is a provider in our behavioral health department on the mental health therapy team, specializing in pediatric therapy. She believes that helping children who are struggling can have long-lasting results. “If you can start kids who are struggling emotionally or behaviorally when they’re younger, they’ll have a more successful teenagerhood/adulthood,” she said. Her practice is located at our Layton Antelope Building A location in the west wing of the basement.

Originally from Layton, UT, she attended Eastern Oklahoma State College for her associate’s degree, Utah Valley University for her bachelor’s degree and the University of Phoenix for her master’s degree in mental health counseling.

Her passion for children’s therapy came from her experiences in psychology and childcare. She said, “I’ve always loved working with children so I took my interest in psychology and my passion for working with kids and put them together.” As a child therapist, she specializes in trauma therapy, play therapy, and sand tray therapy. Hamilton-Barrett said, “I like working with kids in interactive sessions, it is their love language, their way to express themselves. It’s interesting to see how the brain works and how it’s their own little filing cabinet.”

When she works with her patients, Hamilton-Barrett mentioned that she feels a rewarding feeling of helping children. She said, “I love seeing the progress of the kids. I love seeing them come in with their trauma brain and helping them work through their trauma, going from victim to survivor. They’re so resilient, they just need some guidance along the way.”

Outside of work, she enjoys playing sports, going hiking, and spending time with her family.
