David Jenks, Ph.D., LMFT is a provider in our Mental Health Therapy team in the behavioral health department. He sees patients in our Layton Antelope Building A on the basement level on the west wing. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Marriage and Family Studies from Brigham Young University-Idaho, his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Lutheran University, and his Doctoral degree from Utah State University in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Jenks is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) as a Clinical Fellow and is also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

Traits that make Dr. Jenks successful include being persistent, passionate, and optimistic. He believes that mental health is a very important aspect of health that is often overlooked. He said it is important to examine the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of life to identify how they are working together to contribute to the prevalence of issues but also how they can promote health in family life. Dr. Jenks also believes that everyone has been successful at one point in their life and those previous successes can be assets to current predicaments that people find themselves in. Dr. Jenks realizes the world is a hard place; he enjoys working with all clients to find ways that help them improve and create healthy relationships. He likes to help them find resources and skills to cope with the world.

Dr. Jenks grew up in Washington State with his parents, two older sisters, and three younger brothers. He is married and has three children of his own. He enjoys woodworking, watching movies, spending time with family, and being in the outdoors. One of his favorite movies is “The Goonies” although he enjoys many more films. When asked if he had any guilty pleasures, Dr. Jenks said “I enjoy finding weird food combinations that taste amazing together. One of my favorites would be a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and a York Peppermint Patty.”

His happy place is doing anything relaxing – whether it’s playing games with family and friends, watching a good movie, building something and being creative, or having fun with his kids!
