Ben Van Leeuwen, MD, MPH

Dr. Ben Van Leeuwen is a board-certified psychiatrist at Tanner Clinic’s East Layton campus in the west wing basement where he provides comprehensive care for teens and adults facing depression, anxiety, and complex mood disorders. He is known for his steady, approachable demeanor and for creating a clinical environment where patients feel comfortable, respected, and understood.

Dr. Van Leeuwen began his training at Brigham Young University, earning his undergraduate degree in Public Health. He then completed both a Master of Public Health and his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, followed by psychiatric residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler. His training spanned multiple treatment settings and contributed to his strong foundation in mood disorders, interventional psychiatry, and evidence-based care.

In his practice, Dr. Van Leeuwen combines traditional psychiatric treatment with advanced therapeutic options, including TMS, IV ketamine, and Spravato for treatment-resistant depression. He takes a thoughtful, individualized approach to treatment planning and works collaboratively with each patient to identify strategies that are both effective and sustainable in daily life.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Van Leeuwen enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Much of his free time is spent playing baseball with his son or talking Pokémon strategy with his daughter, who keeps him up to date on all things Gengar and beyond. He also loves visiting new sushi spots and tracking down the next pair of sneakers to add to his collection. When he has a quiet moment, he’s usually catching a good movie — always with popcorn and a Dr Pepper.
