Jens Johnson, MD

As a family practice physician at the Roy Tanner Clinic, Jens Johnson, MD, values building strong, long-term relationships with his patients. He strives to create a comfortable and welcoming environment, giving each patient the time and attention they deserve. Dr. Johnson especially enjoys getting to know patients beyond their medical concerns, tailoring care plans to their unique needs and goals.

Dr. Johnson earned his undergraduate degree at Chadron State College before completing medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he also completed his residency in family medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and remains committed to evidence-based medicine. His greatest passion lies in teaching patients how lifestyle changes such as weight loss, exercise, and minimizing long-term medications can dramatically improve health.

Originally from Chadron, Nebraska, Dr. Johnson grew up in a small town where his father practiced dentistry and his mother worked at the family dental office. That small-town upbringing shaped his appreciation for personal connections and community-centered care.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Johnson enjoys golf, sports, fantasy football, video games, ping pong, reading, and playing with his children. He also has a love of music and is known to sing, though usually in the car where no one can hear. His favorite books include The Wheel of Time series, and he never misses a chance to rewatch Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter.

Dr. Johnson and his wife, who is also a healthcare provider in the area, have two children. Together, they enjoy family time, often ending the day by reading books with their kids. On a perfect day, you’ll find Dr. Johnson on the golf course with friends or enjoying pizza and wings while watching the Great British Baking Show.
