Kevin S. Sumsion, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist at Tanner Clinic who provides genuine, quality healthcare to each of his patients. Dr. Sumsion is accepting new patients at his practice located on the main floor of the Layton Antelope Building B.
Dr. Sumsion joined Tanner Clinic’s OB/GYN team in 2003 following a successful practice with his father, S. Ray Sumsion, MD, in Bountiful.
The Bountiful native specializes in general obstetrics, hysterectomy surgery, multiple gestation, minimally invasive pelvic surgery and pelvic reconstruction to treat urinary incontinence and abnormal urinary bleeding. Dr. Sumsion was among the first physicians to study and train with the da Vinci® Surgery system, a minimally invasive surgery system that promotes quicker healing.
Furthermore, Dr. Sumsion specializes in high- and low-risk pregnancies. He is certified to deliver his patients’ babies at Davis Hospital and local IHC hospitals.
Dr. Sumsion is the 2010 recipient of the Annual Robert F. Bitner Award for Physician Excellence. The honor is awarded to the Davis Hospital staff physician who “best exemplifies the characteristics of a kind, thoughtful, and compassionate physician who truly cares about patients and staff members.”
Dr. Sumsion completed his medical residency at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. While there, he underwent extensive training in pelvic and reconstructive surgery, as well as urogynecology (bladder reconstructive) pelvic surgery.
Prior, he earned his M.D. at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., a highly ranked medical school that accepts only 2.1 percent of applications it receives. He received his B.S. in pre-med, zoology, from Brigham Young University.
Dr. Sumsion is married and the father of seven children. Alongside spending time with his family, he enjoys being heavily involved in serving his community and helping others. A former BYU intramural champion in competitive Alpine skiing, Dr. Sumsion spends many happy hours skiing.
