Lisa Araujo, LCSW is a mental health therapy provider in our Behavioral Health Department. She is located at our Westside Clinic in Clinton on the Basement Level. She attended Weber State University, where she earned a BS in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies, and later earned an MSW from the University of Utah.
Lisa is a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community and works with the LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapists Guild of Utah and the Utah LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce. She offers gender-affirming support for adolescents and adults who are lacking guidance and support on their journey. Lisa can help guide you through life’s challenges as you learn how to find happiness, stability, and resolution; feel better, function better, and create meaning.
She loves what she does. Lisa says, “I show up for my clients as my authentic self. I’m not the traditional therapist – I use laughter, care, and I’m real with my clients. I put a great deal of effort into building rapport and trust, which is critical in fostering an environment where clients can open up about sensitive issues and past traumas.”
She is passionate about helping those with complex trauma and PTSD, working collaboratively to free them from the pain of holding it all in. Lisa also loves working with clients who are on the long road of healing from loss and navigating the painful grief process.
Lisa welcomes neurodivergent individuals. As a person with ADHD herself, she can help you work toward becoming your authentic self and “unmask,” while also finding practical solutions to manage day-to-day tasks. She has extensive experience with at-risk adolescents, helping them address issues such as suicidality/self-harm, risky behaviors, bullying, healthy relationships, and adjusting to school, college, or other life transitions.
She loves animals and is active in animal rescue; and proudly calls herself a “crazy cat lady in the making.” Lisa lives on a hobby farm in rural Utah with a goat, horse, llama (yes, she spits), pigs, chickens, ducks, geese (who aren’t hers but enjoy her feed), rabbits, cats, dogs, and other wildlife who’ve decided to make her home their home. She enjoys small-town life but loves that she’s only 10 minutes from civilization and movie theaters.
Lisa especially enjoys going to the movies and is a big fan of horror films and psycho-thrillers. It’s a Wonderful Life is one of her favorite films. She’s also an ‘80s rock girl and enjoys going to concerts with her son. Some of her favorite bands are Def Leppard, Foreigner, and Styx. Her happy place is being outdoors with her family, especially in places like Lake Tahoe. She’s also been known to sit in her car by the Ogden River, reading a Ralph Waldo Emerson book and listening to the sounds of nature.
Lisa mostly reads therapy books and loves learning about mental health and psychology. While she enjoys nature, she avoids bears and mountain lions, so she sticks to Utah locations that most likely don’t have those. She recently added golfing, hiking, and biking to her hobbies. Her guilty pleasure is Jack in the Box tacos… truly a guilty pleasure since she’s a vegetarian! It’s a rare treat, usually reserved for long road trips.
Lisa grew up in a small coastal town in Northern California called Pescadero. Her high school was so small it only had seven classrooms – something she’s now grateful for. She and her husband have been together since they were 15, both from that same small town. They now have two adult children and a few grandchildren. Her family is her life and her “why.”
