Michael Giovanniello, M.D. is an Interventional Spine and Pain physician who sees patients in the Layton Antelope Building B on the basement level. He has earned board certifications in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine, Pain Management, and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Giovanniello manages patients 12 years old and up. He treats all musculoskeletal conditions with an emphasis on spinal disorders. He implements a comprehensive practice approach to include high level diagnostics, imaging, physical therapy, and interventional pain management procedures in the management of his patients. His primary goal is to restore the highest level of function so patients can return to an active lifestyle; his basic tenet is “’Motion is Lotion’… so let’s work together to get the Tanner Clinic patients moving pain free!”
Dr. Giovanniello graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Biochemistry. While at Cornell University he was a NCAA Cross Country and Track runner. He attributes his participation as a collegiate athlete in providing him the dedication and discipline to pursue a career in medicine. Following graduation from Cornell University he earned his M.D. Degree from The State University of New York at Buffalo. The next phase of training was a four year residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University. After two years in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona, he completed a fellowship in Interventional Spine Techniques and Pain Management at KDV Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, LTD in York, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Giovanniello was the co-founder of The SMART Clinic in Draper, UT and has practiced comprehensive outpatient musculoskeletal and interventional spine medicine for over 20 years. Dr. Giovanniello’s philosophy is to approach each patient as an individual and establish a comprehensive management program with an emphasis on improving patient function and quality of life.
Dr. Giovanniello enjoys teaching and has been an instructor for interventional spine courses and developed an Interventional Spine Fellowship. Outside of medicine he enjoys skiing the Wasatch, mountain bike riding the trails of Park City, and trail running.
