Michael R. Martineau, MD, is a dermatologist at Tanner Clinic specializing in skin cancer and dermatologic surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery. His practice is located on the third floor of the Layton Antelope Building A west wing.
Among Tanner Clinic’s dermatologists, Dr. Martineau performs the majority of cosmetic dermatologic procedures, including injections of BOTOX and fillers. He also provides skin cancer care, Mohs microsurgery, and dermatologic surgery.
Martineau is board certified in Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery also known as Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is considered the most effective technique for treating the most common forms of skin cancer including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The procedure is done in stages. The cancer is removed with a narrow margin and then immediately processed in the lab to assure the margins are clear of the cancer. If the cancer extends into the margin, then additional tissue is removed, processed and the margins checked while the patient waits. This allows for the removal of all cancerous cells with the highest cure rate while sparing normal tissue and results in the smallest possible scar.
Dr. Martineau received his dermatologic training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Dartmouth University, a private Ivy League research university. During his residency, he served as chief resident. Dr. Martineau also served as a clinical faculty member at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, based in Hanover, New Hampshire before joining Tanner Clinic in 2002.
A native of Salt Lake City, Dr. Martineau graduated from the Honors Program with B.S. in chemistry at the University of Utah. He received his M.D. at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Dr. Martineau, who is board-certified in both Mohs surgery and dermatology, joined Tanner Clinic in 2002.
Dr. Martineau is married and the father of six children. In his spare time, he likes all types of skiing, as well as travel and reading. He’s also a certified scuba diver and possesses a private pilot’s license.
