Get to Know Your Specialist

Dr. Michael Sherman is located in the Bitner building on the second floor and in the South Ogden building on the second floor as well. He was raised in Farmington, Utah by Jeniece Sherman, a caring elementary school teacher, and Richard Sherman, a skilled millwright, and local handyman. Dr. Sherman graduated from Davis High School as a Sterling Scholar, Orchestra President, and Track/Cross Country athlete. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University. After working as an engineer in Texas for four years, he earned a Master’s degree in Bioengineering from the University of Utah and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York.

Dr. Sherman then completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the San Antonio Military Medical Center with a rotation in the Landstuhl Germany Surgical ICU, followed by a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego with rotations at the Mayo Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic in Minnesota and the Scripps Green Liver Clinic in San Diego. He also participated in a medical mission to the Philippines on the USNS Mercy.

Dr. Sherman served 11 years as an Active Duty physician in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Lt. Col. He was stationed at Andrews AFB and Wright Patterson AFB. He then continued to provide Gastroenterology care to the Dayton Ohio community for another 2 years with a local Gastroenterology group (Digestive Specialists). He is thrilled to now serve his hometown community as a Gastroenterologist with the Tanner Clinic. Dr. Sherman is board-certified and provides thorough and compassionate care in all areas of general Gastroenterology with an interest in Eosinophilic Esophagitis and Colon Cancer prevention. He has performed research in Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Fatty Liver.

In addition to Gastroenterology Dr. Sherman enjoys fitness, sports, history, current events, music, nature, woodwork, and gardening. Most of all, he cherishes spending time with his family.
