Monica Cook, LCSW

Monica Cook, LCSW works in Mental Health Therapy within the Behavioral Health Department at our Westside location on the main floor. Monica graduated with honors from Louisiana State University receiving her Master of Social Work degree.  She received her undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, so she has a tough time splitting her loyalties

Monica loves working for Tanner Clinic and loves being a therapist.  She believes strongly in empowering clients to be the “captain of their own ship.”  She loves watching clients meet their goals and transition into the person they want to become.  Monica’s primary modalities are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).  Monica likes to spend a little time in session on insight-oriented therapy as our experiences give perspective to our lives, but spends a large portion of time in the “here and now.” Monica has a strong passion for destigmatizing mental health issues.  Monica’s primary population she works with are adults through the senior population, but also enjoys working with teen clients.  Monica specializes in anxiety, depression, grief, BPD, and OCD.

Monica was born and raised in Gilroy, CA; the garlic capital of the world!  In fact, two of her sisters were garlic queens.  Monica has been a military spouse for 20+ years and in her previous life was a high school basketball coach and an account manager for a national advertising firm.  Monica enjoys photography, traveling, and camping with her four children.  She pretends she can cook by having a few go-to recipes.  But she definitely has bragging rights with her homemade bread and strawberry jam!  Monica enjoys volunteering for her children’s schools.  She is often found helping with the choirs or photographing events.  In high school, Monica toured Japan and Korea with her choir.  As an outstanding whistler, her claim to fame was a whistling solo for one of the songs.
