Get to Know Your Specialist

Ryan Hoggan, MD, is ready to help patients feel relieved of pain and make the most of their doctors’ visits. He specializes in rheumatology, arthritis, joint pain, and working with patients to help get them on the track to personal health. He sees patients at our Layton Antelope Building A in the east wing on our 2nd floor.

Hoggan grew up in Ogden, Utah, where he earned his undergraduate degree at Weber State University and his medical degree at the University of Utah. He then completed his residency training in internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and then returned to the U of U where he completed his fellowship training in rheumatology.  His desire to help people become as active as they choose, mixed with his experience as a pharmacy technician, helped lead him to his specialty in rheumatology and outpatient care.

“The most rewarding aspect of being a healthcare provider is being able to step into a room and take someone’s very, very bad day and make it a little bit less hopeless,” he said. “And it’s good to know that there’s something I can do to help them have a higher quality of life.” Hoggan also wants to ensure that patients make their experience with physicians the best it can be. He suggested that patients go into their appointments knowing what they want to talk about and what other symptoms they might be experiencing so their doctor can help them to the best of his/her abilities.

Outside of his practice, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, going hiking, and visiting Bear Lake.
