WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY?

Mental health therapy is a common intervention used to help manage mental health concerns, stress, and challenges associated with other life experiences. Mental health therapists at Tanner Clinic recognize that life can be very challenging at times and that everyone can benefit from a little help and support every once in a while.

WHAT DO THERAPISTS DO?

Tanner Clinic offers a variety of mental health therapy services including individual counseling, family therapy, marriage and couple therapy, as well as group therapy. Mental health therapists at Tanner Clinic are professionals trained to help manage mental health concerns. As part of a treatment plan, therapists see patients on a regular basis to explore the various concerns that come up and identify appropriate and effective forms of treatment and interventions to help patients accomplish the goals they have related to the various mental health concerns they are experiencing. Our therapists practice from and use principles from a variety of modalities that guide the work they do as they strive to help the individuals, families, and couples who come into their offices. Some of the modalities and principles that are used include cognitive behavioral therapy, experiential therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and solution focused therapy.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?

A typical first session may include a detailed exploration of a patient’s mental health and generally last about 45-55 minutes. In this session, your therapist will explore the concerns you have and the impact that those concerns have on other areas such as the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of your life. They may also explore the various solutions that have been used in an attempt to manage the present concerns. Therapists may work one-on-one with patients, or in other formats such as couple and family therapy.

WHO SHOULD SEE A THERAPIST?

Mental Health therapy is beneficial to everyone for a variety of reasons. Problems may be related to mental health conditions and other challenges someone may experience.  These challenges can be sudden or more long term in nature. Mental health therapy is for anyone who identifies that they could benefit from an additional source of support to help them identify ways to better manage the stressors they are experiencing, no matter what those concerns are.
