Lyssandra Harker, MS, CCC-SLP is a Voice and Swallowing Therapist at ourLaytonAntelope Building A clinic on the 2nd floor, west side and ourLayton Parkway clinic on the 2nd floor. She is a fully licensed therapist and accredited with a Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech Language Hearing Association. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from BYU and completed her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Utah. During her studies she was awarded several scholarships for academic excellence and held a coveted position in a Speech Pathology research lab. She was also selected to complete an externship for a competitive placement at Intermountain Voice and Swallowing Center.

Lyssandra believes voice and swallowing therapy provides hope and healing to people who are struggling with unseen illnesses and disorders. Just looking at someone, it would not be obvious if they can’t swallow or can’t speak louder than a whisper. However, loss of those functions may have a profound impact on their quality of life. Lyssandra loves providing people with the knowledge and skills they need to improve their condition. Lyssandra said that she tries “to have a compassionate ear and listen to my patient’s full history and background so I know how I can best help them. I can offer my patients hope and encouragement because I have seen therapy work wonders.”

Lyssandra grew up in western Pennsylvania and always enjoyed singing. She was introduced to Voice Therapy when a voice specialized Speech Pathologist visited her show choir in high school. She had previously wanted to be a Physical Therapist, but this meeting gave her a new career path. Voice and Swallowing Therapy is very similar to Physical Therapy, but with a focus on the muscles in and around the voice box. Being a Speech Pathologist has allowed her to combine several areas of study and practice that she is passionate about.

In her free time, Lyssandra enjoys singing, swimming, biking, yoga, foreign films, studying German, and watching musicals. Some of her favorite books are Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Harry Potter, and Pride and Prejudice. She also loves animals and recently learned to ride horses.

She met her husband at BYU and they have been married for over 10 years. Together they have a daughter and a son. She loves to travel with her family. Lyssandra’s daughter is only a few years old and has already been to six European countries! Her happy place would be on a beach, preferably in Europe. In day-to-day life, her happy place is sitting in a hammock in her backyard with her family, enjoying the sunshine.
