Diabetes Education

Diabetes Education is a specialty that treats patients with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes, Pre-Diabetes and Hypoglycemia. Learning to manage your diabetes can be complicated. Diabetes education at Tanner Clinic is an American Diabetes Association recognized program. Our diabetes educators offer appointments for individual sessions or group classes.  Diabetes Education at Tanner Clinic will include nutrition, diabetes medications, including insulin administration, monitoring your blood sugar via glucometer or continuous glucose monitors, instruction on insulin pumps, and lifestyle and behavioral changes. They work in conjunction with your primary care provider to help manage your diabetes. Your diabetes educator (Gina Carling, CDCES & Cindy Johnston, CDCES) will help you set goals, create a plan and work towards achieving a healthier life and preventing diabetes-related complications.

Diabetes education is crucial because it empowers individuals to manage their condition effectively. Firstly, it provides essential knowledge about diabetes, including its types, causes, and symptoms. This information enables early detection and prompt intervention. Next, education emphasizes the importance of a balanced diet and regular physical activity. It teaches people how to make healthier choices to control blood sugar levels. Additionally, diabetes education helps individuals understand medications and insulin therapy, promoting proper administration and dosage management. Moreover, it raises awareness about the potential complications of diabetes, such as heart disease, kidney problems, and neuropathy. Armed with this knowledge, people can take preventive measures.

Furthermore, it encourages regular monitoring of blood glucose levels, fostering better self-care habits. Education also addresses emotional aspects, emphasizing the importance of psychological well-being and offering coping strategies. In summary, diabetes education is vital for informed decision-making, adopting healthier lifestyles, managing medications, preventing complications, and ensuring emotional well-being. It empowers individuals to take control of their health and lead fulfilling lives despite diabetes.
