Urology

Urology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and conditions related to the urinary tract system in both males and females and the male reproductive system. Our urologists are medical providers who specialize in this field and have extensive knowledge and training in managing a wide range of urological conditions.

Urologists employ various diagnostic techniques, including imaging studies, laboratory tests, and endoscopic procedures, to diagnose and treat urological conditions. Urology treatment options may include medications, minimally invasive procedures, surgery, and lifestyle modifications.

Regular check-ups with a urologist are essential, especially for individuals experiencing urological symptoms or have risk factors. This ensures early detection and effective management of any potential issues. Our Urology clinics are located at our Layton clinics just north of Antelope Drive.

Treating urological conditions is crucial for several reasons, as these conditions can have significant impacts on a person’s health, well-being, and quality of life. Untreated urological conditions can lead to a decline in overall health and well-being. Conditions like kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and bladder issues can cause pain, discomfort, and fatigue, affecting a person’s daily activities and ability to function normally.

Furthermore, many urological conditions, if left untreated, can lead to serious complications. For example, untreated urinary tract infections can spread to the kidneys and potentially cause kidney damage. Similarly, kidney stones that are not managed can obstruct the urinary tract and lead to kidney damage or infection. The kidneys play a vital role in filtering waste and toxins from the blood, maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance, and producing hormones that regulate blood pressure. Early treatment of kidney-related conditions can help preserve kidney function and prevent the progression of kidney disease.

Some cancers, such as prostate cancer, kidney cancer, and bladder cancer, can be life-threatening if not detected and treated early. Timely intervention can significantly improve the chances of successful treatment and improve survival rates.

Many urological conditions can cause urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and other issues that can severely impact a person’s quality of life. Proper treatment can alleviate symptoms, improve urinary control, and restore sexual function, leading to a better quality of life.

Urological conditions can affect fertility and reproductive health in both men and women. Prompt treatment of these conditions can increase the chances of conception and a successful pregnancy.

Above all, if you or someone you know is experiencing urological symptoms, seeking timely medical attention from a urologist is highly advisable.

WHAT IS UROLOGY?

Urology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and conditions related to the urinary tract system in both males and females and the male reproductive system. Urologists diagnose and treat patients with urological disorders including those of the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and male reproductive organs.

The urinary tract consists of various organs, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, responsible for the production, storage, and elimination of urine from the body. Urologists deal with a variety of urological conditions, such as:

  1. Kidney diseases: Including kidney stones, kidney infections, and kidney cancer.
  2. Bladder conditions: Such as urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and bladder cancer.
  3. Prostate issues: Including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.
  4. Urethral problems: Such as urethral strictures and urethral cancer.
  5. Male reproductive health: Involving conditions like erectile dysfunction, infertility, and male sexual health issues.
  6. Urinary incontinence: The involuntary leakage of urine.

WHAT DO UROLOGISTS DO?

Tanner Clinic urologists treat conditions such as enlarged prostate, erectile dysfunction, incontinence, male infertility, kidney/urethral as well as many other concerns and problems related to the urinary tracts of males and females. They often perform urology procedures such as stones treatment, vasectomy, bladder scopes, as well as many other procedures related to urinary tracts and the reproductive system of males. Our providers also offer the MonaLisa Touch Laser which is used for Vaginal Rejuvenation and Treatments. The MonaLisa is used to rejuvenate those Perimenopausal or Postmenopausal or those suffering from other disorders of the Pelvic Floor including Urinary Tract Infections.

WHEN SHOULD I SEE A UROLOGIST?

A urologist can help you if you are experiencing problems affecting your urinary tract. Male patients can be seen for annual prostate checks, reproductive health problems or if you wish to have a vasectomy. If you feel that you may be getting a kidney stone, or if you experience kidney stones frequently, a Urologist will be able to assess your situation and find the proper treatment for you. Some insurance plans require a referral in order to see a specialist, such as a Urologist. Be sure to see your primary care doctor to get the referral you may need in order to be covered for your visit to a urologist.
